Course Information
Content: In This course offers an introduction to the first part of the Catechism, giving the student an overview of the profession of faith – what we believe – and the sacramental economy – how the Church is redeemed by Christ in the sacraments.
Catechesis is the action through which the Church conveys the proclamation of the Good News in an organic and systematic way to initiate people into the Christian life.
By studying the Catechism of the Catholic Church, we will obtain an organic and synthetic vision of the Catholic doctrine that will allow us to undertake further theological studies and count with the basis to design catechesis proposals adapted to our concrete ecclesial realities
Learning objectives: The course is divided into four units and thus has four main objectives. At the end of the course the student will be able to: identify the singularity of man in creation as a being open to transcendence, capable of listening and responding to the call that God makes to him through his Son; distinguish in the Trinitarian structure of our creed the actions that are attributed to each of the divine persons in the work of redemption; illustrate how the paschal mystery is actualized by the liturgy of the Church; finally analyse how the seven sacraments actualize the paschal mystery of Christ in the different stages of the believer’s life
At the end of the first unit you will know how to understand the singularity of man in creation as a being open to transcendence, capable of listening and responding to the call that God makes to him through his Son in the Church as a community, in which we respond ‘We believe’.
Our creed begins ‘I believe in one God’, thus the Church confesses the oneness of God, but we Christians confess that there is only one God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit: the Holy Trinity. At the end of this unit the student will be able to distinguish in the Trinitarian structure of our creed the actions attributed to each of the divine persons in the work of redemption
At the end of the unit, the student will be able to illustrate how Christ manifests, makes present and communicates his work of Salvation through the Church's liturgy, a continuous actualisation of the paschal mystery
The course Introduction to Catechism 2: Life in Christ and Christian Prayer will soon be available
